ABS Plus Void Formworks can be used to construct underground water cisterns. The void created by the system serves as an ideal space for rainwater harvesting, enabling sustainable water management solutions. When constructing underground cisterns, one of the greatest advantages of ABS Plus Void Formworks is the significant cost savings in building the reinforced concrete slab. While the foundation and surrounding shear walls are built similarly to other methods, the use of ABS Plus allows the top slab to achieve much higher load-bearing capacity with less structural design complexity and reduced material consumption over a wider area. In contrast, conventional column-beam-slab designs require larger columns and beams to carry the same loads, and they become increasingly complicated and costly when applied to wide-span areas.
Because the top slab is underground, it must withstand not only soil pressure but also additional loads—such as vehicle traffic when used beneath parking areas. Compared to conventional column-beam systems, the reinforced concrete structure created with ABS Plus is stronger, more durable, and more cost-efficient. Another key advantage is the protection of the cistern’s concrete ceiling and columns with the durable ABS plastic formwork. Once cast in place, this permanent plastic barrier shields the concrete from humidity and aggressive soil conditions, prolonging the service life of the structure, reducing maintenance needs, and ensuring long-term reliability.
